Elmer Don Farrow, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born July 17, 1926, in Oriole, to George and Emma Perry Farrow. He and Dorothy Elizabeth Marion were married Aug. 14, 1948, in Piggott, Ark.
Elmer was a 1944 graduate of College High School. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, past member of Cape Girardeau Jaycees and lifetime member of VFW Post 3838.
He served in the United States Navy from Dec. 26, 1944, until July 16, 1946. He attained the rank of petty officer third class. He was a boatswain's mate third class assigned to the USS Dennis and USS Luxembourg.
Farrow and his late brother, Laurence Farrow, formed Farrow Construction Co. on April 4, 1948. They also were associated with Far-Spar Development Co. After the death of his brother, he formed Elmer Farrow Construction Co. He retired in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Lana Donette (Ronald D.) Johnson of Cape Girardeau; a grandson, Andrew (Patricia) Farrow Johnson of Millersville; three great-grandsons, Phillip Andrew Johnson, Daniel Joseph Johnson and Jacob Patrick Johnson, all of Millersville; two sisters, Betty Ward of Murphysboro, Ill., and June Mahy of St. Louis; and a brother, Russell Farrow of Cape Girardeau.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife; great-granddaughter, Natalie Grace Johnson; five brothers; and three sisters.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Tony Ward officiating. Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum with full military honors provided.
