BELL CITY -- Elmer Eugene Green, 71, of Bell City, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1993, at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff. He was born Aug. 14, 1921, at Bloomfield, son of Marion and Ida Pixley Green. He and Wilburn Smothers were married Feb. 14, 1959. Green was a self-employed timber worker; member and deacon at Apostolic House of Prayer Church here. BELL CITY -- Elmer Eugene Green, 71, of Bell City, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1993, at the VA Hospital in Poplar Bluff.

He was born Aug. 14, 1921, at Bloomfield, son of Marion and Ida Pixley Green. He and Wilburn Smothers were married Feb. 14, 1959.

Green was a self-employed timber worker; member and deacon at Apostolic House of Prayer Church here. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wayne Green of Advance, Larry Sides of Palmersville, Tenn.; three daughters, Wanda Pounds of Whitewater, Edna Scheible of Bloomfield, Jenny Jennings of Bell City; three sisters, Mary Bradshaw of St. Clair, May Tilley and Carol Bates of Bell City; 18 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, a grandson, four brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. The Rev. David Light will officiate, with burial in Gravel Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
