SCOTT CITY -- Funeral service for Elmer Eugene Burton of Swedeborg was held March 9 at Swedeborg Baptist Church. Pryor Ray Prewett and the Rev. Larry Atkins officiated, with burial in Methodist Cemetery at Caledonia.

Burton, 66, died Monday, March 6, 1995, at the home of a stepson in Park Hills.

He was born July 15, 1928, at Ancell, son of Eugene and Bessie Irene Stone Burton. He and Patsy Ann DeGrant were married Aug. 22, 1981.

Burton worked at Playcraft Boat Factory in Richland, and also refinished and restored antique cars. He was fire chief and a member of Swedeborg Baptist Church. He was president of REACT, had been a Boy Scout leader, and served three years with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Burton of Buckhorn; two daughters, Connie Navarette of Lovington, N.M., Diane Burton of Carlsbad, N.M.; two stepsons, Mark Ratliff of Park Hills, Keith Ratliff of Farmington; a brother, Jim Burton of Scott City; four sisters, Iva Tucker of Kelso, Maxine Messmer and Margie Schlosser of Scott City, Barbara Garrett of Benton; six grandchildren, and five stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
