WHITEWATER, Mo. -- Elmer E. Bartels, age 86, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau. Friends may call Sunday, April 29th, between 4 and 8:30 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be Monday, April 30th, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, followed by interment in Zion Methodist Cemetery. The Rev. Virgil Bunch will officiate...

WHITEWATER, Mo. -- Elmer E. Bartels, age 86, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau. Friends may call Sunday, April 29th, between 4 and 8:30 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral service will be Monday, April 30th, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home, followed by interment in Zion Methodist Cemetery. The Rev. Virgil Bunch will officiate.

Mr. Bartels was born November 25, 1914, at Whitewater, son of Samuel and Augusta Sperling Bartels. He and Virginia Rose Scherer were married November 25, 1945. She passed away October 7, 1991.

Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Elmer and Kay Bartels Jr., of Whitewater; three grandsons, Larry Bartels and wife Barbara, Mike Bartels and wife Tammy, and Wayne Bartels, all of Whitewater; six great-grandchildren, Rachel, Renae and Robert Bartels, Kevin and Kody Bartels, and Samantha Bartels; and beloved friend, Alberta Heimbaugh, of Cape.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Mr. Bartels was a lifetime farmer in the Whitewater area. He had been a member of the former Whitewater School Board. He attended Whitewater Methodist Church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Whitewater Methodist Church.
