Ellen M. Vaught, 73, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at her home.
She was born Dec. 9, 1950, in Cape Girardeau to Philip Benjamin and Dorothy Marie Monkeiwicz Buchheit. She was baptized at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Ellen was a 1968 graduate of Chaffee High School and was a member of Cape Girardeau Eagles Auxiliary No. 3375. She worked in the medical profession for a number of years, acquiring her emergency medical technician's license in 1981. She retired from Westmoreland Community Action in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, as a case manager in December 2015.
Ellen enjoyed traveling, painting, people watching, trail hiking, playing cards and visiting with her family.
Survivors include her siblings, Phyllis Duschell, Paul Buchheit, Cheryl Buchheit, Laura Zimmerman, Anita Hartle, Sandra Ressel and Karen Schlosser; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Tracy Buchheit.
The cremation of Ellen was personally handled by the staff at Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cape Girardeau.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
