Ellen May Demko, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at her home.
She was born Feb. 23, 1927, at Kelso, Mo., to Creal and Clara Carlton May. She and John George Demko met in Hawaii and were married May 28, 1944, in Bayonne, N.J. He preceded her in death Aug. 5, 2006.
Ellen grew up in Morley, Mo. John and Ellen raised their family in New Jersey and on retirement moved to Oriental, N.C.
Sailing was an ongoing adventure, moving from local small boat sailing to more adventurous voyages. Ellen's long career in the art glass world was an important part of her life and her work encompassed many original designs of small works as well as public and private installations.
Surviving are four children, Lisa (Will) Walker of the home, Laura Johnson of Kansas City, Thomas John (Joan) Demko of St. Petersburg, Fla., Joseph (Megg) Demko of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Jason Christopher Demko of Long Branch, N.J., Daniel Johnson, May Esther of Florida, Michael Johnson of Red Bank, N.J., Zachary and William Demko of Orlando, Kirsten Demko of St. Petersburg; four siblings, Charlie Frank (Frances) May of Bartlett, Ill., Don May of Dexter, Mo., Jerry May of Morley, Thomas May of Van Buren, Mo.; 12 nieces and nephews and their families.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, and two siblings, George May and Mollie May.
