Ella Human

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. -- Ella M. Human of Cockeysville died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, Md.

She was born in 1924 and grew up in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Paul and Altha Uelsmann. She married Army officer Theodore H. "Ted" Human.

An avid artist and musician, she was a cellist with the Cape Girardeau Symphony Orchestra and paid for half her tuition at Southeast Missouri State University by playing the cello with a string quartet at faculty functions.

Human moved to St. Louis in 1944 and continued her education at Washington University.

The couple settled in Maryland after World War II, where she stayed home to raise two children. After the children were grown she became a secretary at Sheppard Pratt Hospital. At the time of retirement she was secretary to the director of the Child and Adolescent Unit.

A lifelong learner, Ella continued to take college courses and painting classes at Towson University and the Community College of Baltimore at Essex, where she became a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Ella was diagnosed as having Alzheimer's disease in 1998. She had remained in her home until a week before her death.

Survivors include a son, Timothy (Susan) Human of Seaford, Del.; a daughter, Linda Human of Cockeysville; four grandchildren, Alex and Scott Human, Gwen (Mike) Willey, Laura Human, all of Seaford; and two great-grandchildren, Ayden and Ethan.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to service time Friday at Lemmon Funeral Home of Dulaney Valley Inc. in Timonium.

A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
