Elizabeth Ann Messmer, 86 of Scott City died Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Arnaudville, Louisiana, to Maurice Joseph and Gertrude Amy Lecompte Colomb. She married James John Messmer on Feb. 5, 1955, in Houma, Louisiana. Elizabeth Ann Messmer, 86 of Scott City died Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Arnaudville, Louisiana, to Maurice Joseph and Gertrude Amy Lecompte Colomb. She married James John Messmer on Feb. 5, 1955, in Houma, Louisiana. He preceded her in death Aug. 28, 2007.

She was an administrative assistant for Community Counseling Center and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

She is survived by three sons, Clark (Theresa) Messmer of Cape Girardeau, Lawrence (Katy Sparks) Messmer of Houma and David (Kathy) Messmer of Marble Hill, Missouri; two daughters, Penny (Willie) St. Pierre of Houma and Brenda (John) Robertson of Benton, Missouri; a brother, Homer Colomb of Houma; two sisters, Rose Champagne of Luling, Louisiana, and Lillie Munson of Paradis, Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Michael Casteel as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Scott City.

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to an animal shelter of your choice.
