Elaine Pautler McCammon, 75, of Ladue, Mo., and formerly of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at St. Luke's Hospital in Chesterfield, Mo.
She and John P. McCammon Jr. were married July 25, 1964. She and her husband were ardent conservationists and owned land and a second home at Lawrenceton, Mo., near Ste. Genevieve.
McCammon worked as a copywriter at Gardner Advertising in St. Louis after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1947. She received a master's from Washington University in St. Louis in 1979.
She was involved in numerous community organizations and activities. She was executive director of the United Nations Association of Greater St. Louis in Clayton, Mo., during the 1980s.
She was director of the Ethical Society of St. Louis's Sunday School from 1973 to 1975. She also was a volunteer tutor for the Intergenerational Tutoring Program in the Ladue School District.
McCammon was an active supporter of The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and a member of its Backers Board for many years. As an original member of The Rep's Docent Program, she regularly visited schools to talk about the theatre's productions.
Additionally, she helped process and organize materials contributed to the St. Louis Media Archives at the St. Louis Public Library's downtown headquarters.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Ann McCammon Soltis of Cornucopia, Wis., and Lucy McCammon of Washington, N.J.; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Basler of Ste. Genevieve; and a brother, Paul Pautler of Perryville, Mo.
