VENICE, Fla. — Edwin John “Butch” Urhahn, 81, of Venice died peacefully Friday, April 19, 2024, at Sunset Lake Health Center.
He was born Aug. 19, 1942, to Theon Peter and Lorena Wesley Hawkins Urhahn. He married Darlene Schwartz Ford on Jan. 31, 1998.
He was a member of Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. He attended Mass daily and enjoyed observing the grade school children during the Mass services.
Butch attended St. Denis Catholic Grade School and was a 1960 graduate of Thomas W. Kelly High School.
He was the founder and CEO of 1st Tire & Wheel in Cape Girardeau from 1992 until his retirement in 2009. Butch’s talent as a salesman and later as a business owner was unmatched. His sense of humor and wit always had people laughing, and he never stopped trying to teach others what he learned from life.
He was an avid golfer. You could find him on his favorite courses at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson, The Egyptian Country Club in Mounds, Illinois, and most recently at Lake Venice Golf Club in Venice.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Urhahn; a stepson Nathan (Stephanie) Ford; his stepgrandchildren, Liam, Lyla and Hollis of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Patricia Schlosser, and a sister-in-law, Barbara Urhahn, both of Benton; and many nieces and nephews, both immediate and great.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Wesley “Boodle”, Marvin “Curly”, Jim “Tex” and Harold Urhahn; one sister, Joanie Kerby; and a stepdaughter, Michelle Y. Ford.
There will be no visitation, and burial will be at Epiphany Cathedral Memorial Gardens in Venice.
