Edward J. Ostroski, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 2, 1918, at St. Joseph, Mo., son of Vincent and Isabel Potrofski Ostroski. He and Ann E. Boch were married May 11, 1946, at St. Joseph.
Ostroski served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He was in the infantry, received the Bronze Star and was a military policeman. He also worked as a butcher for 31 years at Swift Packing Company in St. Joseph before transferring to Marshaltown, Iowa. He moved to Cape Girardeau 26 years ago. Ostroski was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau.
His family moved to the United States from Poland in 1904, settling in St. Joseph. He was a skilled wood carver who made the altar of St. Xavier Church in St. Joseph. The altar is still used today.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Darryl Sauer and Cheryl and Charles Counts of Cape Girardeau; a son-in-law, Jack Donaldson of Cape Girardeau; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Regina Donaldson; six brothers; and seven sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Derek Swanson will officiate, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Military graveside rights will be provided by the Missouri Honor Guard.
