Edward Lee Castleman, 69, of Columbia, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at his home. He was born July 21, 1944, in Cape Girardeau. Edward Lee Castleman, 69, of Columbia, Ill., died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at his home.

He was born July 21, 1944, in Cape Girardeau.

Ed retired from Southern Pacific (Cotton Belt) Railroad after 32 years. After retirement, he volunteered at RSVP and Radio Information Service in Belleville, Ill. He was a member of Christ Community Lutheran Church in Columbia, VFW Post 2593 and United Transportation Union.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Castleman; a son, Jason (Angie) Castleman of El Paso, Ill.; two stepchildren, Maggie and Adam Ursch of Columbia; three brothers, Larry (Kathryn) Castleman of Dothan, Ala., Tom (Kathi) Castleman of Indianapolis and Mark (Paula) Castleman of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Neisha (John) Schwartz of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Zach and Abby; a stepgrandchild, Hunter Datillo; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Bob Groves.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen Castleman; and a grandson, Jacob Edward.

Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at a later date.
