PIEDMONT -- Edrice L. Hempstead, 88, of Lubbock, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Lubbock. She was born July 24, 1909, at Piedmont, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clevenger. She and James E. Hempstead were married in 1930. He died Nov. 26, 1990...

PIEDMONT -- Edrice L. Hempstead, 88, of Lubbock, Texas, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Lubbock.

She was born July 24, 1909, at Piedmont, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clevenger. She and James E. Hempstead were married in 1930. He died Nov. 26, 1990.

Hempstead moved to Lubbock in 1987 from Little Rock, Ark. She was a member of First Christian Church in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include a son, Dr. James Hempstead of Lubbock; and three grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Fruitland, with the Rev. Grant Gillard officiating.

McCombs Funeral Home at Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
