Edna Murphy, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at West Georgia Hospice in La Grange, Ga. She was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Crowder, Mo., the daughter of Thomas and Bertha Irvin. She married Joseph Murphy. He preceded her in death. She was the retired former secretary of the Greene County Youth Service Bureau. Edna Murphy, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at West Georgia Hospice in La Grange, Ga.

She was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Crowder, Mo., the daughter of Thomas and Bertha Irvin. She married Joseph Murphy. He preceded her in death.

She was the retired former secretary of the Greene County Youth Service Bureau. She was a member of Maple United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau and a member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, David Murphy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Ronald Murphy of La Grange; a daughter, Betty Jo Johnson of Cherry Valley, Ark.; a sister, Velma Jackson of Jackson, Mo.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould, Ark.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.

Burial will be at Greene County Memorial Gardens in Paragould.
