Edna W. Grossheider, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at her home. She was born April 12, 1910, in Cape Girardeau County, the daughter of Robert and Veronica "Frohnie" Schwab. She married Henry W. Grossheider in 1931. He died in 1979...

Edna W. Grossheider, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 13, 1997, at her home.

She was born April 12, 1910, in Cape Girardeau County, the daughter of Robert and Veronica "Frohnie" Schwab. She married Henry W. Grossheider in 1931. He died in 1979.

She was a licensed funeral director. In 1954, the Grossheiders and their son, Neil, bought the Brinkhoff-Howell Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. After the elder Henry Grossheider's death, mother and son operated the funeral home. In 1983, they bought Walther's Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau and Baker Funeral Home in Marble Hill. They sold the Cape Girardeau funeral homes in 1988, and she moved to Marble Hill to work with her son there until her health forced her to retire. They sold the funeral home in Marble Hill in 1996.

She belonged to both the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau and the Presbyterian Church in Marble Hill.

She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church Ladies' Aid, the Garden Club and numerous card clubs.

Survivors include a son, Neil Grossheider of Marble Hill, and two sisters, Erna Wessell and Marie Cunningham, both of Cape Girardeau.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. David V. Dissen officiating.

There is no visitation.
