Mrs. Edna Corbin Kinder of Cape Girardeau passed away on Monday, September 28, 1998, at the age of 94.
She was born on Aug. 5, 1904, in Zalma, the daughter of Daniel B. and Almeda Robinson Corbin. She married Luke F. Kinder on May 9, 1925, in Jackson, Mo. He preceded her in death on May 28, 1989. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, the DAR, the Wednesday Club and a church circle. She was a graduate of Will Mayfield Junior College in Marble Hill and received a bachelor of science degree from Warrensburg State Teachers College. She taught three years at Caruth, one year at Dogwood High School in Mississippi County and for two years was the principal of Patton High School. In 1934 she moved to Cape and taught one year at Scott City and three years at the Sikeston Junior High School. Mrs. Kinder was the first special education teacher in the Cape public school system. She taught at May Greene School from 1938 until her retirement in 1969.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Jerry (and Polly) Kinder of Cape and Richard Kinder of Houston, Tex.; five grandchildren, Polly Whittle of Orlando, Fla., Susan Ivie of Sikeston, John Kinder of Iowa City, Iowa, David Kinder of Houston, Tex. and Kara Kinder of Dallas Tex.; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, four half brothers, one sister and two half sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Ford & Sons, the Rev. Ron Watts officiating.
Pallbearers will include Jeff Whittle, Stan Ivey, John Kinder, David Kinder, Walter Ford and Judge William Syler.
The family requests donations may be made to the Southeast Hospital Foundation or the St. Francis Medical Center Foundation.
