Edmond Howard

Edmond N. Howard, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Aug. 1, 1914, in California, Mo., son of Charley Floyd and Monnie McDaniel Howard. He and Martha A. Hockersmith were married Nov. 6, 1954, in Hernando, Miss.

Mr. Howard was a graduate of California High School.

He was superintendent 25 years at Prairie Manufacturing Co. in East Prairie, Mo., and also worked seven years at Hart, Schaffner and Marx in Cape Girardeau.

Mr. Howard was a member of Mount Auburn Christian Church, where he served as an elder. He was previously a member of First Christian Church in East Prairie, where he was an elder, taught Sunday school and was a song leader. He was involved with Habitat for Humanity by working on houses as a woodworker.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from Dec. 14, 1942, to Oct. 16, 1945.

Survivors include his wife, Martha; a daughter and son-in-law, Carla and David Scott of St. Peters, Mo.; a brother, Clayton Howard of Springfield, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Sundi Zucca, John Scott and Robin Scott.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Wesley Wright officiating. A committal service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in California.
