Edith Wray Prater of Jackson passed from this life Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, at Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
She was born Oct. 15, 1932, grew up in Coldwater, Missouri, and eventually settled down in Jackson, until she passed.
Edith was active at First Baptist Church in Jackson.
She had a passion for animals and raised many dogs and cats throughout her lifetime. She was well known for her beautiful cakes and made hundreds of them throughout her lifetime for family, friends and others. Edith enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery and gardening in her free time.
She will be fondly remembered for the special times and Sunday dinners she spent with her family.
Survivors include her children, Neil (Beverly) Prater, Paula (Phil) Johnston, Carla "C.J." Prater and Berla (Thomas) Strong. She is also survived by grandchildren, Dana Johnston, Jesse (Sara) Saupe, Deanna Johnston, Amber Saupe and Brandi (Charlie) Wallgren; and great-grandchildren, Madeline Johnston, Gavin Saupe, Blake Saupe, Beck Johnston, Kaitlyn Saupe, Annabelle Johnston and Oliver Wallgren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mary Wray; and siblings, Arnold (Goldie) Wray, Floyd Wray, Marvin (Susan) Wray, Opal (Junior) Graham, and Betty (Larry) Nessmeyer.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, a public visitation or memorial for Edith will not be held, and services will be for immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and/or American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
Emerson Funeral Home in Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.
