ULLIN, Ill. -- Edith Payne, 77, of Ozark, Ala., and formerly of Ullin, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the Dale Medical Center in Ozark.
She was born March 1, 1924, daughter of Ollie and Mary Young Wood. She married the Rev. John F. Payne.
She was a member of the Ozark Baptist Church and served for many years with her husband in pastoral ministry. She was active in Southern Baptist mission work. She serviced as director of the Dale Association Women's Missionary Union and as the District V president of the Women's Missionary Union.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Johnnie L. Heuermann of Elkhart, Ind., and Mary E. Payne of New Haven, Conn.; a son, Dr. David K. Payne of New York City; a sister, Helen Williams of Paducah, Ky.; a brother, Delbert D. Wood of Canton, Mich.; and three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Cemetery in Dongola, Ill., with the Rev. John Clark officiating.
