TAMMS, Ill. -- Edith E. Dakin Guild, 78, of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Tamms, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, surrounded by her family. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn't go alone....

TAMMS, Ill. -- Edith E. Dakin Guild, 78, of Belleville, Ill., formerly of Tamms, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, surrounded by her family.

It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you didn't go alone.

For part of us went with you,

The day God called you home.

Edith was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Thebes, Ill., to William and Edith Berry Dakin. She married Clarence Guild on Dec. 1, 1952. He preceded her in death July 5, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Dakin; and a sister, Dorothy Bernier.

Before retirement she was a press operator at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville and was a mental health technician at Choate Mental Health in Anna, Ill.

Edith enjoyed friends and family, sewing, reading and gardening. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Belleville.

Loving mother of Janice (Phil) Ballas of Albers, Ill., Theresa (Bill) Starms of Okawville, Ill., Catherine (Phil) Powers of Collinsville, Ill.; dear grandmother of Jennifer Conklin (Ricky) of Belleville, Laura Wittenbrink (Rob) of New Baden, Ill., Jaime Zamora (Kyle) both serving in Iraq, Zak Zillen of Chicago, Will Starms of Okawville, Angie Powers of St. Louis, Casey Powers of Collinsville; dear sister of Roy Dakin (Caroline) and Rusty (Emma) Dakin, of Mounds, Ill., Joe Dakin (Ani) of Tamms, Irene (Steve) Godar of Raleigh, N.C., Vivian Sheible of Mounds, Pearl Poole of Elco, Ill., Virginia Holshouser of Karnak, Ill.; along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Thursday at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill McGhee officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge, Ill.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Belleville or the American Lung Association, and will be accepted at the funeral home.
