Edgar Theodore Schlimpert, 86, of Concordia, Mo., passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2007.
He was born Sept. 17, 1921, near Shawneetown, son of the late Charles and Dora Starzinger Schlimpert. He and Melba Schlesselman were married Jan. 1, 1945, in Concordia.
Edgar attended Trinity Lutheran School in Shawneetown, was a 1940 graduate of Jackson High School, and graduated from Concordia College in River Forest, Ill., in 1944.
His first teaching position was at St. Paul Lutheran School in Sidney, Neb. He became a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Lemay, Mo., in 1946, where he served as principal, organist and teens director. He earned a master's degree from St. Louis University in 1957, and in 1961 became principal at Green Park Lutheran School until his retirement in 1986. In 1990 he moved to Concordia.
Edgar was very active in the church and community, serving on many committees and organizations.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years; three sons, Charles (Patti) Schlimpert of Portland, Ore., James (Judy) Schlimpert of Stillwater, Okla., and Thomas (Sherrill) Schlimpert of Columbia, Mo.; a brother, Clarence Schlimpert of Jackson; a sister, Berniece Lorenz of Jackson; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Concordia, with the Rev. R. Lee Hagan officiating.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Saxony Lutheran High School in Jackson.
