JACKSON -- Edgar O. Jones, 86, of Jackson died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 24, 1912, at Dexter, son of Columbus J. and Dora Rufner Jones. He and Kathleen Rhodes were married in 1939.
Jones was plant manager at National Lead Co. in Fredericktown from 1953-60. He was employed by Western Electric/AT&T from 1960 until retiring in 1977.
He served in the U.S. Navy 21 years, retiring in 1953 as chief petty officer. He served during World War II and the Korean War, receiving naval combat citations in both.
Jones was a member of First Baptist Church, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post, and Whitewater Masonic Lodge.
He lived in the Whitewater community many years, moved to Jackson in 1955 from Fredericktown, and had been at the Veterans Home the past four years.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, County Commissioner Gerald Jones and Fred Jones of Jackson, Joseph Jones of Fargo, N.D.; a daughter, Nancy Jones of Janesville, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six brothers.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. An American Legion Honor Guard service will be held at 7.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. O. David Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
