DEXTER -- Edgar Gerald "Shike" Palmer, 82, of Dexter died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Beverly Health Rehabilitation Center at Dexter.
He was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Stoddard County, son of John Wesley and Ermin Iduma Greer Palmer Sr. He and Pearl Swan were married Jan. 24, 1942. She died May 21, 1999.
Palmer owned and operated his own barber shop at Bernie for 50 years before retiring in 1990. He served with the United States Army during World War II.
Survivors include four sons, Michael Palmer of Crestwood, Theron Palmer of Dexter, Roger Palmer of High Ridge and Douglas Palmer of Brownsburg, Ind.; four daughters, Sheryl Dinkins of Annapolis, Ann Bratberg of Farmington, Patricia Adkins of Dexter and Mary McGhee of Bloomfield; 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, John Wesley Palmer Jr. of Bernie; and a sister, Byrdia Alexander of Bernie.
He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter, a grandson and a brother.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at Rainey Funeral Home at Bernie.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joe Masters officiating. Burial will follow at Bernie Cemetery.
