ALTENBURG - Edgar A. Haertling of Altenburg died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 1991 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was 89.
Haertling was born Dec. 1, 1901 at New Wells, the son of the late Oswald and Augusta Pfeiffer Haertling.
He married Hertha Ruehling on Sept. 21, 1924. She survives, along with sons Norman Haertling of Altenburg; Leonard Haertling of Nashville, Ill.; and Edgar Haertling of Steelville, Ill.
Also surviving are daughters Vernell Steiner of Jackson; Elaine Hadler of Overland; and Gladys Prevallet of Greenville, S.C.; brothers Marvin Haertling of North Dakota and Clarence Haertling of Cape Girardeau; and a sister, Nelda Schuessler of Altenburg.
Other survivors include 27 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and three great, great-grandchildren.
Haertling was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a past school board member of Trinity School, both in Altenburg. He was also a member of the Altenburg Senior Citizens and the Golden Age organizations.
Visitation will take place after 5 p.m. Friday at Young & Sons East Prairie Chapel at Altenburg. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Willard Kassulke will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
