EAST CAPE GIRARDEAU, Ill. -- Eddie Jerome, 98, of East Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, Ill.
He was born Sept. 30, 1902, in Schulenberg, Texas. He married Irene Minton in Hernando, Miss.
He served in the U.S. Army 116th Signal Radio Intelligence Company from Aug. 21, 1942 to Jan. 18, 1945.
He performed in vaudeville early in his life. He then moved to the Murphysboro, Ill., area, where he taught dance. He owned and operated the Mark Twain Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge in Cairo, Ill. He also was a bartender at the old Colony Club and the Purple Crackle in East Cape Girardeau. He retired as a bartender at the Colonial Restaurant in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include his wife; a stepdaughter, Andrea Ambler Rogers of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Ella Tucker of LaGrange, Texas, and June Stacey of Bryan, Texas; and one grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
There will be no visitation or funeral service.
Burial will be today at Baumgard Cemetery near Miller City, Ill.
