ADVANCE, Mo. -- Ed A. Mirly, 88, of Advance passed away Aug. 24, 2000, at Advance Nursing Center in Advance, after an eight-year illness. He was born July 11, 1912, in Oak Ridge, Mo., son of August and Angeline Pofher Mirly. ADVANCE, Mo. -- Ed A. Mirly, 88, of Advance passed away Aug. 24, 2000, at Advance Nursing Center in Advance, after an eight-year illness.

He was born July 11, 1912, in Oak Ridge, Mo., son of August and Angeline Pofher Mirly. Mr. Mirly and Annice May Sadler were united in marriage Jan. 16, 1938, at Shawneetown, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Mr. Mirly was founder and owner of Mirly Truck Center Inc. During his 62-year career he was an honest and ethical businessman. Mr. Mirly was active in several civic organizations for the city of Advance. He was also very active in his church, St. Paul Lutheran in Chaffee. He served on the board of the Lutheran Nursing Home 20 years, retiring from the board in 1991.

Other survivors include two daughters, Doris Middleton of Advance, Ruth Tolle of Hanford, Calif.; three sisters, Esther Corfiatis of Overland Park, Kan., Mildred Dost of Shawneetown, Laura Mueller of St. Louis; two brothers, Rev. Herb Mirly of Charlotte, N.C., Oscar Mirly of Broken Arrow, Okla.; five grandchildren, Tim Middleton and Mike Middleton of Advance, Alicia Martella of Hanford, Jeff Tolle of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Steve Tolle of Sacramento, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Logan, Brandon, Miranda and Tanner Middleton, all of Advance, Kelsy and Keton Martella of Hanford.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Carl, Dick, Raymond, Paul and Walter; and a sister, Edna.

Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The Rev. Wayne Schwiesow will officiate. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or American Cancer Society.
