Earl Walker

Earl Raymond Walker, 92, formerly of Mississippi County, died at 6:25 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2006, at his home in Scott City.

He was born Oct. 17, 1913, in Sturgis, Ky., to the late Joel B. and Belle Phillips Walker. He was 7 years old when his family moved by covered wagon to the East Prairie area. He spent most of his last 50 years in Ancell/ Scott City. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau, he recently attended the Broadway United Methodist Church close to his home.

He married Rebecca "Edna" Derrington in Bollinger County on July 27, 1935, and she preceded him in death on Feb. 19, 2005. In his early years, he was a farmer. His last job was in maintenance at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Building houses was his hobby; he and his wife built 13 houses during their 69 years together.

Surviving are three daughters; Dorothy Sue and husband Cleatus Raines of Tucson, Ariz., Peggy and husband Don Gross of Scott City, Sharon and husband David Hohler of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Kimberly Greer and husband Nick of Mankato, Minn., Kerri Hohler of Wylie, Texas; two grandsons, Greg Gross and wife Kim of Scott City, Dr. Jeffrey Raines and wife Linda of Coon Rapids, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Michael Gross and wife Kandi, Keith Gross, all of Scott City; a great-great-grandson, Kamerin Scott Gross of Scott City; and a sister, Myrtle Woods of Cuba, Mo.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Walker and Eugene Walker.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Bill Burke of the First Church of the Nazarene of Cape Girardeau will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie under the direction of McMikle Funeral Home
