Earl Tiffin Hartline, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, May 24, 1999, at Missouri Veterans Home. He was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Mounds, Ill. He and Wanda Raby were married June 2, 1934, in Mounds. Hartline worked at Elco Mineral Co. from 1930-40, and then at Woodward Hardware before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-46. He graduated from Radio Material School at the Naval Research Laboratory in New York City in September 1943...

Earl Tiffin Hartline, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, May 24, 1999, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Mounds, Ill. He and Wanda Raby were married June 2, 1934, in Mounds.

Hartline worked at Elco Mineral Co. from 1930-40, and then at Woodward Hardware before serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-46. He graduated from Radio Material School at the Naval Research Laboratory in New York City in September 1943.

After leaving the military he returned to Woodward as a route salesman. He founded Hartline Hardware in 1961, which is now operated by his son.

Hartline received a private pilot's license and was a volunteer pilot with the Civil Air Patrol several years. He was a Boy Scout leader from 1959-85.

He had lived in Cape Girardeau more than 45 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and attended Keystone Bible Class.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Barney Hartline of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Jane Hartline of Portland, Ore.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Dr. John Owen will officiate.
