Dr. William Frederick Oehler, 85, 1001 N. Henderson, died Sunday, Jan. 3, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 8, 1907, at Cairo, Ill., son of Louis J. and Emma Louise Bode Oehler. He and Jeanette Elizabeth Carter were married Sept. 10, 1937, in Cairo. She died Sept. 16, 1986.
Oehler received a certificate in medicine from the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago in 1934, interned a year at Illinois Central Hospital in Chicago, and received his medical degree in July 1935.
He served six months at St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, Ill., and was the physician 23 months at the Menard Penitentiary.
Oehler came to Cape Girardeau in February 1938, and retired in 1988. His practice included general medicine, obstetrics and cardiology. He also administered anesthesia at St. Francis Hospital five years during the 1940s.
He was president of St. Francis board three terms, and at Southeast Hospital one year, and president of Cape County Medical Society in 1948.
Oehler was a charter and life member of American Academy of Family Physicians, and 50-year member of American Medical Society. He had been a member of the Lions Club more than 50 years, was a member of Chamber of Commerce, and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors include cousins Barbara Bode and Carl Bode of Mound City, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a daughter.
Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's, with Msgr. Richard Rolwing officiating. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery at Mounds, Ill.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7:30.
