Dr. Roy V. Schoenborn, 79, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at his home. He was born March 19, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., son of Adam and Rita Thimm Schoenborn. He and Betty McClanahan were married May 27, 1949. Dr. Schoenborn received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Illinois-Normal, a master's of art education from Columbia University in New York, and a master's of fine arts from Columbia University...

Dr. Roy V. Schoenborn, 79, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at his home.

He was born March 19, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., son of Adam and Rita Thimm Schoenborn. He and Betty McClanahan were married May 27, 1949.

Dr. Schoenborn received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Illinois-Normal, a master's of art education from Columbia University in New York, and a master's of fine arts from Columbia University.

He was an art professor at Kent State University, River Forest College in Chicago, and also 32 years at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, retiring as a tenured professor in 1993.

Dr. Schoenborn was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, and was very active in the Cape Girardeau community, where many of his paintings can be seen. His design was used for the Missouri Bicentennial license plates, and he designed the seal for Southeast University's Centennial. He was also postal chess champion of the United States and Canada for a period of five years.

Loving survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; a son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Cris Schoenborn of Woodstock, Ga.; a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Tim Seabaugh of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren, Bailey and Samantha Seabaugh, Scarlett and Patrick Schoenborn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beatta.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau after 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Short officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
