Dr. Rodney J. O'Connor, 80, of College Station, Texas, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, in College Station.
He was born July 4, 1934, in Cape Girardeau, son of Jay H. and Flora O. Winters O'Connor.
Rodney was a member of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He was director of freshman chemistry at Texas A&M from 1973 until his retirement in 1986. After retiring from Texas A&M he held various teaching positions and owned and operated several successful businesses.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark O'Connor.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley Sander O'Connor; three children, Kara Sabrsula and husband Dub, Shanna O'Connor and Tim O'Connor and wife Mary; six grandchildren, Justin and Ryan Sabrsula, Katherine O'Connor, Alexander O'Connor, Caroline O'Connor and Kyle O'Connor; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Caleb Sabrsula.
The funeral was Tuesday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. Interment was in Memorial Cemetery at College Station.
Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station was in charge of arrangements.
