Dr. Richard Hewitt, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 21, 1938, in Murphysboro, Ill., he was the son of Ray Hewitt and Laraine Clovis Hewitt. He and Judith Snider Swan Hewitt were married June 16, 1979, in Cape Girardeau.
He was a graduate of Wood­river Community High School in East Alton, Ill., in 1956 and a graduate of John A. Logan Chiropractic College in 1966.
He served in the Army from 1956 until 1962. He was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served in 1956 and 1957.
Dr. Hewitt worked for the state of Illinois as a therapist in the mental health department, working at the Manard Correctional Center in Chester, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; three daughters, Threasa Stallings of Cape Girardeau, Carlene Newell and Sue (Ed) Koeppel of Jackson; a brother, Robert Hewitt of Alton, Ill.; a sister, Judy Beckham of Wood River, Ill; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today with parish prayers at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary to follow at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Cathedral, with the Rev. Thomas Keifer officiating.
Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
