DR. MARY-JOE PURCELL

JACKSON -- Funeral for Dr. Mary-Joe Purcell of Jackson was held Wednesday at Irby Funeral Home in Rector, Ark. The Rev. Gaylan Cope officiated. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.

Purcell, 70, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 18, 1929, in Rector, daughter of John Lonzo and Maude O. Cox Purcell.

Purcell had been associate dean at the University of California in Long Beach. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Rector and was organist many years. She was a member of Noon Optimist Club, PEO Chapter LA, League of Women Voters, and federated clubs.

Survivors include cousins, Pauline Crockett of Rector, Dr. Donald Purcell of Paragould, Ark., Barbara Winn of Lafe, Ark., and Elmer Purcell.
