SIKESTON -- Dr. Mark D. Sever, 47, of Sikeston, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1993, at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born Aug. 3, 1946, at Huntsville, Mo., son of Dr. Benjamin O. and Jewell Hicken Sever.
Sever graduated from Dexter High School in 1964. He received his bachelor's degree in health sciences from Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo., in 1968.
He married Sharon D. West, Oct. 4, 1968.
In 1972, Sever graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery in Kansas City, Mo.
Sever served in the U.S. Army during his medical internship and residency in Orthopedics at Brooke Army Medical Center in Ft. Sam Houston, Texas.
In July, 1974, Sever was assigned to Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., as chief of emergency room services.
After his discharged in 1976, Sever contracted with Missouri Delta Medical Center to provide physician services in the emergency room on weekends.
Within two years, Sever established Community Medical Care, which contracted with the Missouri Delta Medical Center to provide physician services in the emergency room around the clock. He served as president of the Community Care.
Sever also served as the director of emergency room services, medical director of the ambulance service and chairman of emergency medical services at the Missouri Delta Medical Center. In addition, he served on the Medical Executive Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee at the hospital.
Sever was a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, American Osteopathic Association and the Missouri Osteopathic and Surgeons Association.
Survivors include his mother; his wife; two sons, Benjamin P. Sever ad Andrew A. Sever, both of Sikeston; five daughters, Sophia V. Sever, Hillary L. Sever, Heather R. Sever, Maggie D. Sever and Samantha J. Sever, all of Sikeston; a sister, Mary C. Kolbe of Hermann, Mo.; his paternal grandmother, Louila Sever of Moberly, Mo.; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Lee Lucas of Macon, Mo.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, with the Rev. Pat Hogan and Missouri Delta Medical Center administrator Charles Ancell officiating.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
