Funeral service for Dr. Jo Robert Cochran of Cape Girardeau will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Paul Short will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.

Friends may call at the chapel from 4-8 p.m. Thursday.

Cochran, 73, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born July 21, 1924, at Gideon, son of Dr. John Howard and Ruby Doherty Cochran. He and Virginia Koch were married Aug. 20, 1949, in Cape Girardeau. She died April 21, 1994.

Cochran was a graduate of the University of Missouri Medical School and the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

He had a family medical practice in Cape Girardeau from 1953-77. He became a member of the medical staff at Southeast Missouri Hospital in 1955, and in 1977 became director of emergency room services at the hospital. He later worked five years for State of Missouri Disabilities Determinations, retiring in 1996.

Cochran had served on the following committees: program, accreditation, credentials, general practice, special pediatrics, pediatrics, joint conference, medical executive, education, utilization, and emergency services.

Medical staff offices held include secretary in 1962, president elect in 1965, and president in 1966.

Cochran was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church and had been a member of Breakfast Optimist Club many years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Carol Murphy of Cape Girardeau; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.
