MOUNDS, Ill. -- Dr. Harry Christian Bauer, 84, of Harlan, Ky., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in a Harlan hospital. He was born July 15, 1920, at Mounds, son of Harry C. and Dolly Jenkins Bauer Sr. He married Dr. Camilla Bauer, who died in 1988. MOUNDS, Ill. -- Dr. Harry Christian Bauer, 84, of Harlan, Ky., died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in a Harlan hospital.

He was born July 15, 1920, at Mounds, son of Harry C. and Dolly Jenkins Bauer Sr. He married Dr. Camilla Bauer, who died in 1988.

Bauer retired as chief of pathology at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. He also practiced in Carrolltown, Pa., and Wheeling, W.Va.

He was a graduate of Southern Illinois University, Temple University School of Medicine, and completed an internship at Baylor University Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was elected an emeritus fellow of the College of American Pathologists in 1985. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Harlan.

Bauer was a radar technician in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include two sons, Harry Bauer III of Bluefield, Va., Warner Bauer of Seoul, Korea; a daughter, Helen Clarkson of Amarillo, Texas; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City, Ill., from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beechwood Cemetery in Mounds.

Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City is in charge of arrangements.
