Dr. Harold E. Chism, 77, of Cape Girardeau, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 1994, at the Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born April 11, 1917, in Thebes, Ill., son of Amos and Eva Mabel Chism, and the stepson of Carl Hewitt. He married Clarisse Lueders of Cape Girardeau March 7, 1942.
Following graduation in 1940 from the St. Louis University School of Dental Medicine, he began his practice in the Himmelberger-Harrison Building in Cape Girardeau with a satellite office in Benton. In 1942, he joined the Army Air Corps and attained the rank of major with a tour of duty in Morocco, Africa. At the end of World War II, he returned to his family and patients in the tri-state area.
In 1950, he moved his dental office to the Medical Arts Building, 1856 Broadway, where he practiced until his retirement in 1992.
He was active in several professional study clubs and was honored in 1990 for 50 years of service by the Missouri Dental Association.
He is survived by his wife and his daughter, Melissa Palmer of Chicago.
