CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Funeral service for Dr. George E. Brown of Carbondale, Ill., was held Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Carbondale. Burial was Sunday in Humansville.
Brown, 84 years old, died Thursday, March 21, 1991, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
He was born Sept. 4, 1906, at Humansville, son of Ervin and Ida Quillin Brown. He and the former Ethelyn Cline were married Oct. 30, 1935, in Monroe City.
Brown graduated from Central Methodist College in Fayette, and received a doctorate in organic chemistry from Iowa State University.
He was professor emeritus of chemistry at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and was chairman of the chemistry department at Southeast Missouri State University. He was at Southeast six years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James W. Brown of Indianapolis, Ind.; his mother of Deming, N.M.; a sister, Berneice Leivly of Deming, and two grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian of Indianapolis.
