Dr. Floyd King Wright Sr., 83, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 2, 1999, in St. Louis.
He was born June 2, 1916, in Sabine County, Texas, son of Joseph Lambert and Emma Neal Wright. He was adopted by Ralph and Dollie Smith King. He and Janie Merle Muckleroy were married June 6, 1941, in Nacogdoches County, Texas.
Wright received bachelor's and master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas; attended the University of Houston; and received a doctorate from the University of Denver.
He was principal at Little Cypress High School in Orange, Texas, 10 years. He was a professor at Southeast Missouri State University from 1962 until retiring in 1981.
Wright had lived in Cape Girardeau since 1962. He was a member of First Baptist Church, St. Mark's Masonic Lodge and St. Mark's Order of Eastern Star.
He was a past president and board member of Cape Senior Center. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Floyd Wright Jr. of St. Louis; a daughter, Janice Finley of St. Louis; a brother, Woodrow Wright of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a grandson.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel, followed by a masonic service at 7.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
