A memorial service for Dr. Charles Thomas Herbert Sr. of Tallahassee, Fla., will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Brant Hazlett will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.
Herbert, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, at his home.
He was born Dec. 18, 1909, in Sarah, Miss., son of Charles and Agnes Diffee Herbert. He and Elizabeth Wight were married Sept. 23, 1969, in Memphis, Tenn.
He began a general practice in Cape Girardeau in 1937. He was a medical officer in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in North Africa. He attained the rank of major.
Herbert returned to Cape Girardeau where he specialized in pediatrics. He retired in August 1980 and moved to Florida.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Dr. Charles Thomas Herbert Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Richard N. Herbert of Germantown, Tenn.; two daughters, Susan McQuary of Tallahassee, Carol Strickland of Cairo, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
