Douglass Lloyd Block, 41, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at his residence in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on March 24, 1964, in Muscatine, Iowa, son of Lloyd H. and Jill F. Feagan Block. He and Margo Thien were married on March 11, 1995, in Cape Girardeau.

Block graduated from Arkansas State University and received his Masters degree from Southern Illinois University. He was a football coach at Southeast Missouri State University, Cal State University and Southern Illinois University.

He was with the Missouri Army National Guard for 19 years, and six years were full-time. Block served in Iraq for 14 months, from 2004 to 2005. He was local chairman of Ducks Unlimited.

Doug battled his cancer for a year bravely and courageously.

He is survived by his wife, Margo Thien Block of Cape Girardeau; son, Austin Block of Cape Girardeau; parents, Lloyd and Jill Block of Caruthersville, Mo. and two sisters, Jo Loyd Zinselmeyer of St. Louis and Lorie Marie Roberts of Bruce, Miss.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel with Dr. Paul Currie officiating, with full military honors by the Missouri National Guard Honor Team out of Cape Girardeau.
