Douglas Smith

Douglas Morris Smith, 75, of Jackson died Saturday, March 3, 2007, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Pueblo, Colo., son of Vincent James and Mary Fern Childs Smith. He and Verona Boehm were married Dec. 31, 1963, in Duluth, Minn. She died March 15, 1993.

Smith served in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 22, 1952, to Jan. 19, 1956.

Survivors include a daughter, Stephanie Smith Williams of Chaffee, Mo.; three brothers, Gordon Smith of Perryville, Mo., Gregory Smith of Florida, and Roger Smith of Hiram, Mo.; a sister, Valois Bingham of Euless, Texas; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Schaffner officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau with military rites by Missouri Honor Guard.
