Doug Franklin Sr.
CAIRO, Ill. -- Funeral for Doug Franklin Sr. of Cairo will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. Kelly Cox will officiate. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery at Mounds, with military rites by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time.
Franklin, 72, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at his home.
He was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Russellville, Ky., son of Clure and Lucille Kennedy Franklin.
Franklin retired as a welder with Cairo Waterfront Services. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Laborers Local 773, and charter member of Cairo VFW Post 2649. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Shedd of Houston, Texas, Carol Johnson of Kevil, Ky., Johnnie Edging of Bardwell, Ky., Patricia Dilley of Waterloo, Ill.; six sons, William "Rusty" Franklin of Olive Branch, Steven and Roy Franklin of Cairo, Mark Franklin of Miller City, Robin Franklin of Thebes, and Terry Franklin of Urbandale.
Also surviving are five sisters, Dorothy Mayberry of Cairo, Mary Stiff of Tamms, Linda Johnson of DeSoto, Barbara Nunley of Peoria, Carolyn Smith of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two brothers, Earl Franklin of Olive Branch, David Franklin of Ullin; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and two grandchildren.
