Dorris William Smith, 92, of Scott City died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Kelso, Mo., to Campbell Russell and Ora Beatrice Raines Smith. He married Lillian Elizabeth Heisserer on Jan. 17, 1942, in Kelso.
Smith was a farmer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Smith is survived by his wife; a son, Floyd (Karen) Smith of Scott City; a daughter, Linda (Ray) Smith of Scott City; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Martens, Chad (Sheri) Smith, Kenneth (Erika) Smith, Brian Smith, Ray (Brittany) Smith and Crystal Smith; nine great-grandchildren, Breanna, Nicole and Timothy Martens, Joey Cobb, Bailey and Stetson Smith, Mackenzie, Elizabeth and Mason Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, three brothers, a sister, and a grandson, Daniel Smith.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Parish prayers will be at 7:30.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with full military honors.
