ANNA, Ill. -- Dorris L. Hankla, 80, of Anna died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997, at the home of a son in Cypress, Texas.
He was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Cobden, son of William Jefferson and Susie Fitzgerald Hankla.
He married Gladys Murphy.
He was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army infantry. He received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was a charter member and first commander of the Carroll P. Foster Post 3455 VFW in Anna. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 344 in Anna. He was a 50-year member of Elks lodges in Danville and Anna.
He was a retired newspaper copy editor.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Hankla of Anna; a son, Jeff Hankla of Cypress; a daughter, DeAnna Spurlock of Chardon, Ohio; a sister, Violet Cantrell of Anna; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Service will be held at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Rick Hertenstein officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home in Anna from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
