ORAN, Mo. -- Dorothy Evelyn Shy passed away peacefully, with family by her side Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018.
She was born March 8, 1922, in Grubbs, Arkansas, to the late Clarence and Ruth Holbrook Brewer.
Dorothy worked on the family farm, in a hat factory and as a waitress to care for her family. She enjoyed growing vegetables, tending to flowers in her yard and sewing, including quilt-making.
Dorothy's greatest joy in life was her family and, when asked what she wanted as a gift for Christmas or her birthday, her reply was always, "Pictures of my family."
She is survived by her sons, Dan (Kittie) Shy, Larry (Linda) Shy and Sammy Shy, all of Oran; grandchildren, Deanna Shy, Danny Shy Jr., Darryl Shy, Shelby Shy, George Trumpower, Kenneth Plummer, Carolyn Niemira, Chris Shy, Heather Duncan, Damon Shy, Rodney Shy, Tammy Merritt, Kerry Shy and Brandy Sheehan; and cherished great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Rodney Shy; a sister, Vivian Brewer; and a brother, Chris Brewer.
In lieu of a service, the family will gather privately to celebrate her life.
