Dorothy Mae Scowden, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Life Care Center.

She was born Sept. 18, 1923, at Frankclay, Mo., daughter of Carl E. and Edith N. Gilliam Davis. She and Harold Leon Scowden were married Sept. 21, 1943, at Leadwood, Mo. He died March 11, 2004.

Mrs. Scowden moved to Cape Girardeau in 1962 from Kennett, Mo. She had worked at Rust & Martin and at Mr. C's IGA. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women, and American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Larry Scowden and wife Lura; a daughter, Karen Hagan and husband Pat; a granddaughter, Shannon Hagan; a grandson, Sean Hagan and wife Sarah; a granddaughter, Katie Scowden; and a great-granddaughter, Sophie Hagan, all of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Scott Moon officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or American Legion Auxiliary.
