Dorothy Caroline Ressel, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Kelso to Anton and Anna Ostendorf Diebold. She and Harold J. Ressel were married Oct. 18, 1955 in Kelso. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Dorothy enjoyed quilting, playing cards, gardening and fishing. She loved her grandkids and all her family members. She was a very faithful-filled person.
She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She volunteered at the church and with Saint Francis Medical Center Auxiliary. She loved to volunteer and accumulated more than 40,000-plus volunteer hours through the years. In 1993, she was awarded the “Auxilian of the Year” by the Missouri Hospital Association.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Ressel of Cape Girardeau and David (Kimberley) Ressel of North Olmsted, Ohio; a daughter, Sharon (Tom) Westrich of White Plains, New York; a sister, Clara Essner of Kelso; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Paul Diebold; two sisters, Lorene Essner and Helen Menz; and one grandson, B.J. Ressel.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at the church, with the Rev. Rick Jones and Deacon Mark Kiblinger officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
