Dorothy Randol

Dorothy Louise Alma Kiehne Randol, 85, of Cape Girardeau passed away at the Lutheran Home Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006.

Mrs. Randol was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Walter Albert and Kora Marie Christine Hager Kiehne. She married Narvol Arthur Randol Oct. 22, 1939, in Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and eldest daughter, Carolyn Louise Randol Brinkle.

She is survived by children, Jane Randol Jackson and husband Larry, Margaret Randol Dement, and Narvol and Amy Randol Jr., all of Cape Girardeau; a son-in-law, Lydle Brinkle of Signal Mount, Tenn.; cousins, James and Judith Burgess of Paragould, Ark.; grandchildren Dale and Kris Brinkle of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., Bryan and Jennifer Brinkle of Pittsburgh, Pa., Craig Brinkle of Jacksonville, Fla., Christopher and Debbie Tilley of Tampa, Fla., Julia Lambert Kellick and Tim Kellick of Webster Groves, Mo., Alison Lambert Diamond and Lloyd Diamond of Cape Girardeau, Shannon and Becky Randol of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Neil Randol of Cape Girardeau; great-grandchildren, Anthony Brinkle and Zachary Brinkle of Soddy-Daisy, Benjamin Kellick and Claire Kellick of Webster Groves, and half brother Alyn and Juanita Spalding of Scott City.

Mrs. Randol attended Cape Girardeau Public Schools and Southeast Missouri State University.

Before her husband, Narvol, left for the European Theater during World War II, she accompanied him as he traveled across the United States as part of Army training.

After the war Mr. and Mrs. Randol entered the retail business in Cape Girardeau by opening Square Deal Variety Store on Broadway. Mrs. Randol was her husband's strongest supporter as he was elected mayor of Cape Girardeau, became president of Farmers and Merchants Bank, and was promoted to brigadier general in the Missouri National Guard.

Mrs. Randol's prime focus was raising the couple's four children and establishing a loving home in Cape Girardeau. She and her husband worked as a team and could always be found supporting each child, participating in their activities, and encouraging each child to represent the family to the best of their abilities, be well educated and be good citizens.

Mrs. Randol was a lifetime member of 75 years and one of the oldest members of Grace United Methodist Church. As a youth, she and her husband met at the church in the 1930s, then married in 1939 at the church. They were both recognized as "pillars" of Grace United Methodist Church as they helped the church grow at its old location at Sprigg and Independence and move into the current location at Caruthers and Broadway. They both were members of the church board and Chancel Choir, chaired numerous committees, and successfully headed many, many fund-raising and building campaigns for Grace United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Randol was a lifetime member and president of United Methodist Women. She served as a Sunday school teacher in many areas during her church membership, but one class in particular, the Searchers Sunday School Class, a young couples class of 70 members, became the second family whom she dearly loved.

She was a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow. She was a member of Quest Club, PEO Chapter EY, active as a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Southeast Missouri State University Copper Dome Society.

She and her husband established the Narvol A. and Dorothy K. Randol Scholarship at the university.

She and her husband were very proud of their association with Southeast Missouri Hospital, where Mr. Randol served in many capacities for the board. They were both members of Southeast Missouri Hospital Association. Mrs. Randol had been a member of Southeast Hospital Auxiliary since 1973. As a member of the auxiliary she knitted 563 baby caps since 2001 for the hospital nursery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Grace Church. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be given to Grace United Methodist Church Memorials, the Narvol A. and Dorothy K. Randol Scholarship at Southeast Missouri State University Foundation, Southeast Hospice or the charity of your choice.
