Dorothy L. Mayfield, 88, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2016, at Woodland Hills A Stonebridge Community in Marble Hill, Missouri.
She was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Volla “V.C.” and Maude Kasten Friedrich. She and Juel Dean Mayfield were married Feb. 12, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas. He passed away Oct. 8, 2012.
Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Jackson High School. She was a lifelong member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson where she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a licensed cosmetologist, but most of all, Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Loving survivors include five children, Joe Daniel (Lou Ann) Mayfield of Wilmington, North Carolina, Deborah (John) Broshuis of Leopold, Missouri, David (Jimmie) Mayfield of Irving, Texas, Dennis (Annie) Mayfield of Gillette, Wyoming, and Doug (Mary) Mayfield of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Gabe and Tim Mayfield, Tara Landewee and John T. Broshuis, Ben Mayfield and Erin Mayfield Craig and Dustin and Diya Mayfield; six great-grandchildren, Kale and Ike Landewee, Spencer and Owen Mayfield, Vivien Craig and Bishop Mayfield; and two stepgrandsons.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Joe Rowley and Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Emanuel United Church of Christ.
